More on that in a Minute

I like minecraft, a lot, on occassion. It's in need of some tweaks to get me really into minecraft. I'm going to document the changes in the near future:

First, you need mcpatcher, so we can make use of HD texture packs and install mods. Get it here: https://github.com/pclewis/mcpatcher/downloads

I'm using linux so I'm in need of the .jar file. It can be run using

This should pop up an easy GUI. We'll get to this in a minute.

Next, we'll need to implement the right modifications:

- Auto switcher will automatically switch to the right tool for your job; the right pick for mining, the best axe for cutting, etc. http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/753030-131125-thebombzens-mods-now-with-autoswitch-2/

OptiFine: Minecraft has many performance issues. OptiFine helps to smooth them out, and provides better graphics for those with reasonable computers. http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/249637-131-optifine-hd-b1-fps-boost-hd-textures-aa-af-and-much-more/

- ModLoader: I don't remember why I've got this installed, but I'm guessing it's due to a legitimate reason. http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/75440-v131-risugamis-mods-preliminary-updates/

So now that you have all required mods, you can launch McPatterer. You can add multiple mods to mcpatcher (Mods -> Add to the menu). Also , point it to your minecraft.jar. You can find it in /.minecraft/bin/

Check the following mods and ensure that they are in the right order. To arrange them, use the arrows located at the lower right of the GUI

1. AutoSwitchMod

2. ModLoader

3.  Titanlauncher.Org OptiFine

4. Custom Colors

5. Random Mobs

6. Connected Textures

7. Better Skies

Click on patch. Mcpatcher may be annoyed, but click yes.

Finally, we need a good texture package. I like this one: http://bdcraft.net/download-purebdcraft-texturepack-for-minecraft, 128 bit. Minecraft does not seem to be capable of handling much larger files. Download it and save the .zip to ~/.minecraft/texturepacks. It should be now possible to choose it from the game's menu.
